Over the past years, there has been significant progress in understanding the conservation issues in relation to urban lakes for the sustainable development of the city in Romania. In the face of increasing pressures due to urbanization, urban lakes could play a substantial role in finding alternatives for recreation and connection to nature, which is why the present study investigated the role and value of these lakes for local communities in three cities in Romania. In the present study, the authors conducted an assessment of the level of perception of cultural services in relations to nature-based solutions before and after some measures of improvement the environmental quality of three urban lakes from Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu and Tulcea. In order to highlight the extent to which local communities know and understand the importance of Nature Based Solutions measures for improvement of cultural services during the survey, the targeted audiences was informed about the meaning of this type of actions. The following values: accessibility, habits in leisure time, recreation satisfactions and social attractiveness by age, education, sex and health status were calculated for Gheorghieni Lake (Cluj-Napoca), Binder Lake (Sibiu) and Ciuperca Lake (Tulcea) and comparative analyses were made.
